Christmas Ministry Spotlight: Huntsville Inner City Learning Center Ladies Ministry
This Christmas season, OCOAH will be highlighting different Christ-centered ministries in our city and letting you know how you can serve and help these ministries bring Jesus to our community! Today’s feature is the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center’s Ladies Ministry:
Tell us about the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center Ladies Ministry:
The HICLC Ladies Ministry mission is to assist women in reaching their spiritual, personal, and educational goals by supporting and encouraging them to become God-fearing, self-sufficient leaders in their community. We are a ministry offspring of the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center. We officially our doors on September 15th of this year. We are currently partnered with Drake State Community and Technical College offering GED classes onsite every Tuesday and Thursday. We also have ESL (English as a Second Language) classes available to ladies at the Drake Campus. As we continue to grow we have plans for a bilingual bible study as well as opportunities for counseling, health/wellness instruction and fellowship events where our ladies can just unwind together in a Christian environment.
What motivates you to do what you do?
A majority of the ladies we serve are single mom. I (Sondra Law) am raising my 14-year-old daughter as a single mom. God has positioned people in my life to help raise my daughter. It so happens that she attended the Summer Camp Program here at the Huntsville Inner City Learning Center where I now work. I feel God placed me here because I have been where the ladies are and can relate to their daily struggles. God has blessed our young ministry with volunteers who are more than eager to walk along side these ladies in their journey and everyday trials.
What is one verse that has been significant in your ministry and why?
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of HIS will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.” Colossians 1:9 We are created in the image of Christ and to be Christ-like. Every time our doors open is an opportunity to share Christ and encourage others to do so.
What is one of your most memorable God moments in this city?
Working in the heart of the inner city, I see memorable God moments each day. It is amazing how volunteers from all walks of life want to give back to those who may have fallen on hard times. We are a non profit but we never go without because God always blesses us with what we need.
How can we help you and the people you serve this holiday season?
During the holidays our moms want to make sure their children have gifts and many sometimes go without. We would love to have small items to fill stockings such as socks, gloves, lotions for 40 of the ladies we serve. Contact sondra@hiclc.org for more information on donating and getting involved.
