Each Tuesday, in addition to Pastors, we will begin hearing from different people in our city who serve God in various ways. Be you a teacher, worship leader, business professional, media anchor, stay at home mom, engineer, fireman, physician, ministry leader or volunteer…as a son or daughter of the High King, you serve an important role and we want to hear how God is moving in your life. We hope the People’s Corner can further connect the Body of Christ and bring Him glory! “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Tell us about yourself

I am a mother of two amazing boys, Connor (12) and Merik (9). I have an equally amazing husband, Ryan, who is an unbelievable father to my children. I am a lover of Jesus who longs to lead others into a deeper relationship with Christ through revelation of Him, and through extravagant worship. I am a teacher at Whitesburg Christian Academy, and I LOVE showing those kiddos more of who they are in Christ!

What motivates you to do what you do?

I would be lying if I didn’t say I was sometimes selfishly motivated (ha!), but most of the time, I am motivated the promptings of the Holy Spirit. I have learned (and am consistently reminded) that no matter how hard I try on my own, it is always best to do all things the way the Lord wants them done, and in His timing. His timing and ways are perfect!!

What is one verse that has been significant in your life and why?

Jeremiah 17:7-8 has become my life verse. It says, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

I saw a poster in Starbucks that had a picture of a tree on it. It said, “The deeper the roots, the higher the reach.” I thought this was an amazing spiritual statement. When I returned home, I was prompted by the Lord to look up scriptures with roots and trees. I found Jeremiah 17:7-8 and knew this is the treasure the Lord wanted me to find. As issues have arisen in life, this verse has served as an excellent reminder to continually plant myself next to the “waters of life,” where I will always flourish!!

What is God speaking to you right now?

God is doing a new thing in me. He has been stripping me of incorrect beliefs and parts of life that are not his perfect plan for me. “Religion” is simpler than I have tried to make it out to be in the past. I know He is calling me to a higher level of ministry, of hearing Him clearly, and in being completely lead by His Spirit. I am excited to step in and step up into this new level in Him!

What is one of your most memorable God moments in this city?

In order to share the most memorable “God moment,” I need to give some background. We relocated to Huntsville in 2008. Prior to that time, we lived in Michigan, where I worked in the children’s ministry at our church (constantly pouring into those kids), and my husband was successful in the mortgage business.

In 2007, our lives fell apart. My husband, who was on commission, began making very little as the economy began to crash. And, well, my church salary didn’t exactly cover the bills. On top of that, we found out that our youngest son (22 months-old at the time) had liver cancer, and it had reached stage 4. Our son received surgery and treatments and is now well.

My husband was offered a job in Huntsville and we moved in June of 2008. We started attending The Rock Family Worship Center, and I proceeded to weep through 8 months of worship services. It wasn’t just one “God moment,” but many months of building back up what was broken, defeated, and in much-need of repair in me! I received restoration through the evident presence of the Lord that is fervently sought after in that place. We no longer attend The Rock because the Lord has called us to Rivertree, but I will always hold a special place in my heart for that house of restoration through worship.
