Pray First: Prayers For Our City January 30-February 5, 2017

Dear Lord,

Thank you for being our Lord and Savior, who meets us right where we are.  May we be a city that continues to grow closer to you, as you draw us near.

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…” James 4:8

May the love of Christ be our FOUNDATION, FILTER and FOCUS

and

may we be a city aglow with a

lifestyle of prayer.

We can learn from 3 things that Jesus did…

“In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.” Mark 1:35 NASB

*A CERTAIN TIME

Jesus got up early to spend time with His Heavenly Father.  Make a daily appointment with God and keep it!

*A CERTAIN PLACE

Jesus had a prayer place. Pick a place, away from distractions, where you can look to the SON, cry out to the Father and hear HIS voice over the white noise of this world.

*A CERTAIN PLAN

Go into prayer time with a plan. If it changes that’s fine.  When Jesus taught HIS disciples how to pray, HE gave them a prayer outline.  We call it the Lord’s Prayer.

“Pray, then, in this way:

‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 ‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.
12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, for yours is the kingdom and the power and glory forever.”

Mathhew 6:9-13

1: CONNECT WITH GOD RELATIONALLY

‘Our Father who is in heaven,

2: WORSHIP HIS NAME

Hallowed be Your name.

3: PRAY HIS AGENDA FIRST

‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.

4: DEPEND ON HIM FOR EVERYTHING

Give us this day our daily bread.

5: GET YOUR HEART RIGHT WITH GOD AND PEOPLE

‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

6: ENGAGE IN SPIRITUAL WARFARE

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one,

7: EXPRESS FAITH IN GOD’S ABILITY

for yours is the kingdom and the power and glory forever.”
