Prayers for Our City: October 2, 2017 – Government

“But whoso hearkens to me [Wisdom] shall dwell securely

and in confident trust and shall be quiet,

without fear or dread of evil.” Proverbs 1:33

We focus this week on Your mercy and protection over Huntsville/Madison County as we pray and commit this region to Your care. Thank You so much, Father, that no violent disruptions occurred during President Trump’s visit last week. Thank You that only positive reports came out of Vice President Pence’s visit to Marshall Space Flight Center. Thank You that no ugly clashes erupted between the confederate statue “protesters and protectors” gathering the Saturday before that. Our local law enforcement has been working overtime and we bless them all, Lord. Thank You for their diligence and determination to do what it takes to keep the peace, to allow people their constitutional rights, and to defend life, liberty and property.
Thank You for the Huntsville Police Department, headed by Chief Mark McMurray, which has 3 Police Precincts, 421 sworn officers, 182 civilian personnel, and patrols an area of 213 square miles.

We also lift up to You Madison County Sheriff’s Department (Sheriff Blake Dorning), and Madison Police Department (Chief David Jernigan) and ask you to give an unusual poise, calm and presence of mind to all law enforcement officials of this region. We ask, Lord, that You be their shield and protector physically and emotionally (Ps. 115:11). Give them wisdom, principled patience and gentle authority. We pray that they may be anxious for nothing, and that the peace of God will guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) We ask strength and blessing for their families.
May our law enforcement officers be agents of Your Hand to resist evil and bring an environment in which heaven’s justice can increase!
(Whenever you have an opportunity to speak with an officer on duty in the city, share a word of thanks and give him/her a quick word of blessing!)
Almighty God, we look to You to protect Huntsville/Madison County from any social unrest, terrorism, biological or chemical warfare, and any geo-physical disaster. May our law enforcement officials and city leaders be prepared to face any crisis and deal with any challenge that may manifest.
If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,

no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Ps. 91:9-11
