Prayers for the Madison Police Department

“Blessed are they who maintain justice…” Psalm 106:3

Father God, we focus prayers of blessings on the Madison Police Department this week as their new Police Chief, David Jernigan, is given the appointment at this week’s city council meeting and his duties begin July 3rd. May this time of transition be covered with Your peace, favor, clarity, unity and love.

Thank You for David Jernigan and the experience he brings to this position. As he leaves his Chief Deputy post with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, we ask that You raise up a good man to fill that vacancy. May Chief Jernigan receive fresh guidance and wisdom from You as he is given this responsibility and may his good relationships with the Sheriff’s Office and Huntsville police build an even stronger shield of protection in our region.

We also bless and thank You for Major Jim Cook who has been serving as interim Police Chief, for Captain Terrell Cook over the Investigations Division, Captain Steve Wilkerson over the Patrol Division, and Captain John Stringer over the Special Operations Division.

We honor and thank You for all 84 officers and their commanders who are dedicated to reducing crime, increasing the quality of life in the community, and providing a safe environment for all citizens to enjoy. We ask that You be their shield and protector physically and emotionally (Ps. 115:11). Lord, give them wisdom, principled patience and gentle authority. We pray that they may be anxious for nothing, and that the peace of God will guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) And we bless and ask for strength and peace for their families.

May the Madison City Police Department be agents of Your Hand to resist evil and bring an environment in which heaven’s justice can increase!

And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace
and reap a harvest of righteousness (justice).”
James 3:17-18
