Prayers for Our City: July 6, 2020 – Church

“Let us not become weary in doing good [and in prayer], for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 NIV

This week, Father, we take time to focus on a very special group of people who are influencing every sphere of culture. Us! Thank you, Lord, for challenging so many to love and pray for Huntsville/Madison County and for each of the 7 Mountains of culture here. We don’t usually feel adequate for this task, but that keeps us coming to You for wisdom and faith to see beyond the problems to Your amazing power and purpose.

Lord, we bless intercessors. Your Word commands all Christians to pray, but You call some to a special lifestyle of intercession – being available when You look for someone to “stand in the gap” between Yourself and a person, a place, or a problem situation so You can pour out the peace, protection, and provision of Heaven!

Father, we ask You to keep intercessors encouraged. What a privilege we have in serving You; in coming before You in that sacred, secret place where You reveal Your heart. Remind us that the weight of the burdens we carry in prayer is to be cast on You (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22). Lift off weariness in this intense season (Psalm 3:3-6).

As we arm ourselves with Your Word and cover ourselves with the power of the blood of Jesus, help us be vigilant and stand against the schemes of our enemy (Ephesians 6:10-18, 1 Peter 5:8-9) knowing You are the one who fights the battle (II Chronicles 15:16-17, Exodus 14:15).

A few of Huntsville’s faithful intercessors

We ask You, Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit within us, to keep Your intercessors from falling into the lies and traps of the enemy. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for raising the alert when we are close to being “hooked” by these temptations.

The following list contains eight ways to guard our hearts against enemy traps while examining our hearts to find blind spots.

  • Be offense free.
  • Avoid criticizing.
  • Quickly clear up twisted miscommunications.
  • Ask for feedback; discern what God is saying to you with accountable safe people.
  • Celebrate those who are being highlighted in the Kingdom; no competing or comparison.
  • Obey God at all costs.
  • Keep your discernment pure by not allowing pride to come in.
  • Remember your ministry of intercession is a service to the Lord. Be thankful that He allows you to know the secrets of His heart.

[Please listen to this 20-minute teaching expounding on these eight points given by Wanda Alger, a seasoned intercessor.]

Intercessors don’t just pray in their closets! We walk and pray!

We praise and thank You, Lord God, that as we humbly guard our hearts, our prayers have great power and produce wonderful results (James 5:16).

Continue to graciously lead and protect Your intercessors, Father, so we can rise to higher levels of authority in prayer – not an organizational authority where we take over the world, but the powerful authority from the Holy Spirit where we have an influence over the world through prayer, through moral example, and through the Gospel.

We recommit ourselves as Your “watchmen on the walls” of Huntsville/Madison County (Isaiah 62:6). We step into that higher place of understanding, authority, prayer, and influence so we can agree with You, Almighty God, to call Heaven down and to obliterate the things here on earth that war against Your Spirit, Your intention, Your purpose and calling for our city/state/nation. As ambassadors of the Kingdom of Heaven, we use our God-given authority on all 7 Mountains of cultural influence. Through our service to You, Lord, we dismantle systems of wickedness and establish the goodness, truth, justice, and wisdom of Heaven!

“Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV

Honor and thank the intercessors you know!
