An Invitation to “Our City STORY”

OurCityOnAHill humbly launches “Our City STORY” on Thursday, September 28th. With great excitement, we invite you to be a part of it.  For two and a half years, different voices in our city have shared stories online. We’ve seen hope ignited, bridges built, and the power of God’s word do what only it can do.

This fall, OurCityOnAHill will also begin bringing these stories to our community in person. Because there is something powerful that happens when we come together! Join us in a living room and hear from the voices of Katie Wilson and Rica McRoy as they transparently share stories of hope and freedom.

The Power of Story

There’s a reason we love action movies like Braveheart when the martyr yells “freeeedom” at the end and gives his life for it. There’s a reason little girls love stories like Cinderella who was rescued from slavery into royalty by the love of a prince.

There’s a reason we love the movie Saving Private Ryan, because the Commander in Chief takes the time to organize a special task force all in the name of rescuing one person.  There’s a reason we admire firemen who drop everything and charge full-speed into dangerous places to save just one life.

There’s a reason we like to see dragons in dungeons and justice prevail. There’s something in us that cheers our hearts out when underdogs win; it’s the hope that whatever is crushing us won’t always win. There’s a reason millions around the globe tuned in at all hours to watch the royal wedding of Kate Middleton. We wanted to see a common girl be loved by a prince and brought into a royal family.  Because…we’re all that girl.

This is our story.

We’re part of the most epic rescue story of all times; the story of the redemption of Jesus Christ.

In His great love, He stops at nothing. He leaves the 99 to find the one, and all the angels in heaven, tens of thousands of angels, rejoice when just one sinner repents.  He gives His all; He enters the muck and mire and goes all the way to that cross, all the way to death, to get his bride…to rescue each one of his kids. In Christ, we are all rescued from slavery into royalty. We are redeemed by a relentless love.

It’s not a fairy tale; it’s a real life story.

So come.

Our stories are meant to intersect. Bring a friend. Enjoy live worship. Encounter the love of Your Maker. Rest and be refreshed. Our prayer is that you leave filled with hope, and one step closer to the God of your story.

“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 MSG
