“Be Still” by Rev Robin Gilbert

“Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving
and you will see that I am God.
I am the God above all the nations,
and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.”
~ Psalm 46:10 The Passion Translation (TPT)

Just say “be still” to a child and watch the horror and disappointment that covers their face.
Be still… two of the most difficult words to hear as a child.

As adults, those same two words are “unheard of” everything in us wants to stay active…physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
It seems that in the midst of life, most situations seem to be immediate and urgent, every detail needs to be tended to…immediately.

Life is urgent.

The words, “be still,” literally mean to let drop, to release, to relax.

I have so much to do, if I don’t do it, it will not get done…Be Still? How do I do that?

“Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.” ~1 Peter 5:7 The Passion Translation (TPT)

It is a matter of planning, a matter of our love for God surpassing all else. It is a matter of taking God off our checklist, our list of things to do and placing God first and foremost in our lives.

Ask yourself:
When I set time aside to read my Bible in the morning or evening, do I rush through it and check off that activity for the day.
When is the last time I released the pressing issues in your life to God?
When is the last time I relaxed in the presence of God?
When is the last time I was quiet enough to hear the whisper of God?
What would it happen if I had one hour to “be still?”
What about 30 minutes?
What about 5 minutes?

You may be thinking, I don’t even know how to be still for 5 minutes. That’s exactly why you need to do it.

Here’s the simple challenge for today: take the next 5 minutes…
to let the immediate and urgent drop.
to release and relax.
to be still and to be quiet.
to focus on the greatness of God.

Be still and know that I am God.
