“Forgotten Seeds” by Robin Gilbert

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused it to grow.  So neither the one who plants counts for anything, nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters work as one, but each will receive his reward according to his work. We are coworkers belonging to God. You are God’s field, God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 NET

Sometimes, if your life resembles mine, we find ourselves so busy with life that we have to stop and ask “What day is this? or What is today’s date?” In the midst of busy schedules, taking kids to school, ball practice, dance, and band; attending meetings at school, work and church; assisting or leading ministries, volunteering and squeezing in a date night, we sometimes lose ourselves. We lose focus and direction. It seems that the more we do, the more we need to do.

At some point, it all becomes overwhelming and before we know it, years have passed and we find ourselves wondering “what if?” What if I had spent more quality time with the kid? What if I had gone back to school? What if we had tried to make our marriage work? What if I had taken the path God had directed? What if I had taken that job? What if?

When we sprinkle our lives with the what if’s, we find ourselves pausing and looking back at the path we have taken. Often the view of the past shows us the reason for the present and the possibilities for the future…the seeds we have sown.

It is at that moment that a relationship with God is vital. It is important. Every one of us plants seeds daily. We plant a seed when we smile at the cashier at the store, yell at a driver in traffic, decide whether or not to give a dollar to a homeless person, donate our time at a soup kitchen, lose our patience while waiting in line, help a friend in need, discipline our children, speak to our spouses and wave at the mailman. We are planters of seeds and every seed we plant yields a harvest and every harvest is grown and cultivated by God.
