Passion, Calling, and Vision By Rev. Robin Arnold

God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.

~Ephesians 2:10 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

A few weeks ago, I was speaking with a friend and he was expressing how he enjoyed having conversation with people who were passionate about what they do; he went on to say that people who are passionate speak with certain zeal and they “live” to do that which they are passionate about.

Our conversation left me wondering… What is it that drives us?
What is it that gets our hearts pumping? What excites us?!

As Christians, shouldn’t our passion be sharing the Word of God and kingdom building? Shouldn’t our calling foster our passion and shouldn’t our vision be composed of our passionate call?

It’s a lot to consider and it’s a heavy load to carry, especially when we have families to care for and bills to pay.

Every once in a while, we see those who have been “blessed” and their passion and their material needs merge. Leaving them, in our eyes, happy and rich and in our minds and hearts we wonder how they did it. And as a Christian, we know, the answer is faith, but in order to activate the faith we must have Passion, Calling and Vision.

Passion, Calling and Vision are three things that no man or woman of God can work in the Kingdom of God without.

Passion is what gets us out of bed in the morning and motivates us each and every day, all day long. It is what pushes us to accomplish what others would never consider achieving. Passion gives foundation for purpose.

Our Calling comes from God and is the ordination of His will for our lives and
ministry. If we walk in the shadow of another’s calling or we fail to discern God’s voice and walk in what is not our calling, we are like Simon who wanted to have the power of God, but was not called of God.

Vision is what gives our Passion and Calling direction. Vision lays a path that guides us past the obstacles and hurdles we must overcome to accomplish God’s will and purpose for our lives.

Without our own individualized, personal Passion, we are just doing a job. Without a Calling and a Vision for our lives and our ministries they will become dormant and mute to a generation that is crying out for help. We can make a difference in this world. Our lives and ministries can absolutely make a tremendous difference in people lives, but not without our own personal Passion, Calling and Vision.

When passion and purpose collide, vision is created and you find yourself walking in your God given calling.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, on this day I ask that your voice be heard. That your charge for our lives, the calling you have designed especially for us; the purpose for which you created us be heard, understood and fulfilled. That our purpose is our passion and that we clearly discern our calling. Father, aid us in our vision, that we may edify You as we walk in the calling you designed for us. In Jesus Name I Pray. ~Amen

Reflection and Faith In Action:

List three things you are passionate about.
Ask those who know you best what they think you are passionate about. List your calling…
Do the things you are passionate about and your calling “match”? Without limitations write your vision!
