Prayer for Our City: February 3, 2020 – Law Enforcement

“When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases;
But the righteous will see their fall.”  Proverbs 29:16 NKJV

Father, as we pray again this week for Your protection over Huntsville/Madison County and for those You have raised up to enforce the laws and preserve peace, we want to pause and give thanks for the results of the Huntsville Police Department’s 2019 Crime Statistics Report. We are so grateful that there is a reduction in every category – especially homicides! (See report below.) And of course, we pray that these statistics be reduced more in 2020!!

Lord, we ask (especially in light of the time of grief our law enforcement has been through the last two months) that You bless Chief McMurray and his entire Department with encouraged hearts and refreshed confidence that their hard work is producing good results.  [The Department has 3 Police Precincts, 421 sworn officers, 182 civilian personnel, and patrols an area of 220 square miles.]

As we bless all the law enforcement of Madison County, we also lift up Sheriff Kevin Turner of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (consisting of 117 sworn deputy sheriff positions that are responsible to answer calls for service within 16 zoned areas totaling 850 square miles), Chief David Jernigan of the Madison Police Department (In May 2019, their department was granted level one accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies – the gold standard for public safety agencies) and the Police Departments of Triana, Owens Cross Roads, New Hope, and Gurley.

Lord, we ask that You be their shield and protector – physically and emotionally (Psalm 115:11).  Give them wisdom, principled patience, and gentle authority. We pray that they may be anxious for nothing, and that the peace of God will guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) We ask this peace, strength, and blessing for their families as well.

 Father, would you also encourage and reward every 7 Mountain Prayer team member who faithfully prays over the weekly prayer focus for Huntsville/Madison County. May this praise report of reduced crime encourage us to continue our part of the job to keep up the prayer shield for our law enforcement and to use the authority You give us, Jesus, to combat evil forces in our community.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:11-12 NIV
