Prayers for Our City: April 29, 2019 – National Day of Prayer

“If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and heal their land.” IIChronicles 7:14

We are so thankful, Father God, that because of the faith of many of our founding fathers, public prayer and national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in American tradition, starting with the Continental Congress asking the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming our nation. Thank You, God, for moving on Congress in 1952 to pass a joint resolution declaring an annual, national day of prayer, which was later established by law as the first Thursday of every May.

As we approach that day, Lord, may we here in Huntsville/Madison County and across our nation appreciate that we are the only nation on the globe whose President makes an annual proclamation, required by law, commending all citizens to observe a designated day of prayer. That’s an awesome freedom! Call Your people from sunrise in Maine to sunset in Hawaii to humbly come before You seeking Your guidance for our leaders and for Your grace upon us as a people on May 2, 2019 (and, of course, every other day of the year as well)!

Our city and nation need Your Love. Thank You for this year’s theme verse “Love One Another As I Have Loved You.” (John 13:34). We cry out as Your children, Father, to enable us to encounter Your Love first and then, in turn, give it to all others.

[Please plan to participate in this annual significant day of prayer by attending one of the observances in our community, by hosting a prayer time at your workplace, or gathering with family and friends in your home. Click here to find an event near you.]
