Prayers for Our City: December 2, 2019 – Education

Huntsville City Schools Administration Center

“Now, our God, we give You thanks, and praise Your glorious Name.” 1 Chronicles 29:13 NIV

We want to start with praise this week for the good news that Huntsville School Superintendent, Mrs. Christie Finley, shared last week at the State of the School presentation. Thank You for the hard work she and the Board have done that resulted in the system coming out of financial straits to have 1.3 months of reserve funds while being able to give all teachers a four percent raise. Continue to encourage the teachers as they work hard as well – the school system has risen from a C to a B on the state report card rating and teacher retention increased to 85 percent.

Lord, we lift up the need for Huntsville residents to be aware and get out to vote on December 10 regarding the school tax ballot; removing three old tax laws and replacing them with one new law with up to date language. [See a full explanation here.] As we pray over our schools and the decisions being made by Boards, would You awaken Your people to the opportunities and needs they could be involved with and how that could impact the future of all our children’s education.

Father God, as we bless all the schools in Huntsville/Madison County, we use the keys of authority You give us to close the door to anti-Christ and/or immoral philosophies and doctrines that have crept into so many schools in our nation. We ask You, Lord, to call and raise up more Christians as teachers and leaders in our education system – we want salt and light to preserve our schools!

Lord, would You shine Your light on any plans made in darkness and expose them before any harm comes to our students and school staff. We bless each School Resource Officer with the ability to release Your peace at the schools they protect. Equip school counselors to give proper anti-bullying education to students and teachers and to provide compassion to bullied students. May all our kids encounter You, Jesus, and move away from a poor self-image to the joy of true identity in Christ.

We agree and claim Psalm 91 protection over our schools.

“He alone is my refuge, my place of safety … For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:2-4 NLT
