Prayers for Our City: December 9, 2019 – Law Enforcement

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18-19 NIV

Oh, Father, our hearts are heavy as we grieve over the Huntsville police officer killed in the line of duty this past week (December 6), becoming the sixth law enforcement officer shot to death in Alabama this year. We honor the service and commitment of STAC Agent Billy Fred Clardy III.

Help his wife and children, mother, two brothers, and extended family experience how near You are to them and how faithfully You will provide for their needs today and in the years to come (Psalm 34:18-19).

Officer Clardy truly had a caring “father’s heart” for the people he served in this city, especially the homeless. Father, would You multiply his influence and raise up many who will step into the gifting and anointing that he carried.

Lord, we bless and cover with Your protective shield and blood the 24 new Huntsville Police officers who just finished the Academy and were sworn in at the December 5 City Council meeting. Give them the alertness, discernment, and wisdom they need to carry out their new responsibilities. Deliver their families from dread and fear as they learn to trust Your comfort (Psalm 23:4).

Remind us often to pray Your shield of protection for all our law enforcement officers (Psalm 115:11). We bless them as they place themselves in harm’s way to protect and rid our city of evil; praying that they may be anxious for nothing as the peace of God guards their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

[Whenever you have an opportunity to speak with an officer on duty in the city, share a word of thanks and give him/her a quick word of blessing!]

And Father, just as the police department has authority to arrest and take the criminals off our streets, the Body of Christ has authority given by You over all the power of the spiritual enemies that are behind the actions of men. Today we use that authority to declare that Huntsville/Madison County is a safe place of refuge and peace. We bind spirits of hatred, envy, greed, rage, and murder from our streets and from our hoes in Jesus’ name. We aks for angelic intervention that defuses these situations and brings confusion to the demonic realm. [Keep standing in your authority because the Church can change the violent crime problem.]

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:11-12
