Prayers for Our City: February 13, 2017 – Businesses

“Let Your work be revealed to Your servants, and Your glorious majesty to their children. And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands –yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it.” Ps. 90:16-17

Father we ask for your guidance and blessing of all that pertains to our city and it’s future development. Our City Council has hired the planning firm, Urban Design Associates, to update the downtown master plan to address the need for more downtown residential living, shopping and entertainment. This is the same planning firm over MidCity (former Madison Square Mall), so we pray that You give all those working on these plans Your perspective and ideas that will promote life, health, prosperity, righteousness and joy.

The three-phase master plan process will take six to ten months to complete. We ask You, Father, to give these planners Your heart for our city and that Your hand will establish their work. Thank You, Lord, that there will be an opportunity in the final phase for stakeholders and citizens to provide feedback during public and private meetings.

We bless Dennis Madsen, Manager of Urban and Long-term Planning for the city and Chad Emerson, CEO of Downtown Huntsville Inc. as they procure the retail demand study and residential demand reports. Their desire is for a “holistic” approach to achieve the live/work/play environment desired and to link downtown to local universities, nearby neighborhoods and Cummings Research Park. Even as we think of our downtown being centered around and built out from our historic spring, Lord, may it be said of our city:

“All my springs (my sources of life and joy) are in you (city of our God).” Ps. 87:7

We are also aware of the Chamber of Commerce release of a new master plan for Cummings Research Park with a vision to transform it into an urban center for high-tech research and development.

So Father, as we commit all this planning to You, we thank You that our city is blessed with the resources to grow and develop. We pray our leaders will acknowledge You and proceed with Your wisdom in all things, for unless You are the one ultimately in charge of the development and building of Huntsville/Madison County, our labors are in vain. ( Ps. 127:1)
