Prayers for Our City: January 21, 2019 – Government/Law Enforcement

“For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” Romans 13:4 NIV

We thank You this week for Your protection over Huntsville/Madison County and for those You have raised up to enforce the laws and preserve peace. We bless Kevin Turner who was sworn in last week as our new Sheriff of Madison County; praying Your wisdom, courage, and guidance for him. We honor and thank You for the faithful service of Sheriff Blake Dorning as he steps down.

[The Madison County Sheriff’ Office currently consists of 117 sworn deputy sheriff’s positions. The majority of these positions are assigned to patrol where deputies provide law enforcement services throughout the county. The department’s patrol division consists of three 10 hour shifts, which answer calls for service within 16 zoned areas totaling 850 square miles. Each shift is supervised by a lieutenant and two sergeants. Their primary mission is to answer calls for service from citizens and protect the public from criminal activity through pro-active patrol operations. They are also responsible for the service of criminal processes such as arrest warrants and subpoenas, which are generated by the Madison County Court System. The patrol division functions are a 24-hour day activity where deputies normally work four days per week, ten hours a day; however, on call 24 hours a day].

As we bless all the law enforcement of Madison County, we also lift up Chief Mark McMurray, of the Huntsville Police Department (which has 3 Police Precincts, 421 sworn officers, 182 civilian personnel, and patrols an area of 213 square miles) and Chief David Jernigan of Madison Police Department and the Police Departments of Triana, Owens Cross Roads, New Hope and Gurley. We ask, Lord, that You be their shield and protector physically and emotionally (Ps. 115:11). Give them wisdom, principled patience, and gentle authority. We pray that they may be anxious for nothing and that the peace of God will guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) We ask for peace, strength, and blessing for their families.

May our law enforcement officers be agents of Your Hand to resist evil and bring an environment in which heaven’s justice can increase! We are so grateful that they face the evil that we run from. They dedicate their lives to those that would hate them because they wear a badge.

[Whenever you have an opportunity to speak with an officer on duty in the city/county, share a word of thanks and give him/her a quick word of blessing!]

Thank You for their diligence and determination to do what it takes to keep the peace, to allow people their constitutional rights, and to defend life, liberty, and property. We pray Psalm 91 protection over them.

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Psalm 91:11 NIV
