Prayers for Our City: July 30, 2018 – Human Trafficking

“…the Lord hath anointed me to…bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty
to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound…”
Isaiah 61:1 KJV

Oh God, we are so sorry and grieved that human trafficking is the world’s fastest growing illegal activity and that North Alabama has become a hot spot for it. According to the National Human Trafficking Hot Line, 68 cases were reported in Alabama last year. [Human trafficking means holding someone against their will for the purpose of engaging in sex for money or forced labor.] The various interstates that connect Huntsville and this region to major cities make it a hub for human trafficking. We pray for the body of Christ to become more educated, alert, prayerful, and committed to seeing this horrendous issue stopped in our area.

Thank You for the Crisis Services of North Alabama which offers their support to victims including examinations by forensic nurses, a 24/7 Helpline, and emergency shelters. Fill these workers with your compassion and may their words release hope into victims.

Thank You for the work being done by the North Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force led by Pat McKay. Protect and use this group as they work with law enforcement to prevent this modern-day slavery problem and raise awareness in the community about how to recognize the signs. Give Pat favor to speak in area school districts to warn our students of the subtle traps traffickers use to work their way into a young person’s life (especially on the internet). Traffickers will use their victim to recruit others, sending the kids into the schools to recruit other kids that come from unstable backgrounds and dysfunctional homes. Oh Lord, protect our children and deliver all people caught in this darkness!

Thank you for Lynn Caffery, the Executive Director of Safe Harbor Youth. Thank You for rescuing and restoring her life to be a rescuer of others. (Be sure to watch video of her testimony!). Empower this organization as it works to get homeless teens off the street, before a trafficker gets to them first. Bless the work they are doing to remodel a home in north Huntsville to provide housing for more trafficking survivors. Provide through Your people the volunteers and donations needed to help with remodeling of the recovery home. [If you would like to volunteer, call Ms. Caffery at (246) 426-0770.]

Father God, give wisdom and strength to our local law enforcement and all who investigate and prosecute traffickers.

If someone you know is caught in human trafficking, contact the Crisis Services of North Alabama helpline at (256) 716-1000 or (800) 691-8426 or the national hotline at 1-888-373-7888, text 233733.

“Can plunder be taken from warriors, or captives be rescued from the fierce? But this is what the Lord says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save.’”
Isaiah 49:24-25 NIV
