Prayers for Our City: June 10, 2019 – Government
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
Dear Father God, we continue to offer up prayers for Your comfort and healing to come to the community of Virginia Beach, Virginia, due to the horrific shooting spree that took place in their Public Works Department last week. Those eleven employees were just ordinary good people who served their city and worked to maintain a safe, healthy community – the kind of servants you don’t know their names or faces, but you appreciate how their work benefits everyone in the county.
So this week, Lord, we honor and pray blessings on all those working for our own Madison County Public Works Department. Thank You for Chuck Faulkner, our Public Works Director and County Engineer. Give him and his team wisdom and discernment in prioritizing the work of keeping our roads and bridges safe, overseeing residential and business developments, surveying and assisting the Madison County Commission.
[The Madison County Department of Public Works provides engineering assistance to the Madison County Commission with regard to construction, maintenance, and repair of County-maintained roads and bridges; provides all surveying services needed by the Madison County Commission; coordinates and reviews plans of residential and commercial developments within unincorporated Madison County; performs heavy earthwork construction for various sites in Madison County; and is responsible for the installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and signals along County-maintained roads.]
Mighty God, Huntsville/Madison County needs Your divine protection. As we bless and pray for the success of our law enforcement officials in thwarting evil, we also acknowledge our part to be vigilant in natural and spiritual ways that keep our community safe and free from such outbreaks of violence. We pray that all citizens will be proactive and alert to see signs of danger and report them; taking appropriate action when needed.
We, Your people, claim Your promises through prayer that “No weapon formed against [Huntsville/Madison County] shall prosper.” Isaiah 54:17 ASV Your Word says that You are faithful, Lord, who will establish us and guard us from the evil one. II Thessalonians 3:3 Your Word also says that we believers are to be strong in You, Lord, and in Your mighty power by putting on the armor you provide to stand against the devil’s schemes. Only Your people can accomplish the work of withstanding the assaults of “the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (See Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV) As we “link our shields of faith” to provide a prayer shield for our community, we are believing Your Word that the flaming arrows (bullets aimed or stray) of the evil one will be extinguished!
In humble gratitude, we acknowledge that it is You who delivers us from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. You cover us with Your pinions, and under Your wings, we seek refuge – Your faithfulness is our shield and bulwark. Therefore, we will not be afraid of the terror by night, or the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or of the destruction that lays waste at noon. Psalm 91: 3-6
