Prayers for Our City: June 11, 2018 – Church

“Well done, good and faithful servant…”. Matthew 25:21 NKJV

Father, it is an honor to bless one of Your faithful servants and a spiritual father/leader of our city, Dr. Jimmy Jackson. As he retires from leading Whitesburg Baptist Church as senior pastor for forty years (and a total of 53 years in pastoral ministry), thank You for his faithful Kingdom service. And of course, You never retire Your Kingdom workers, so we ask You to strengthen and keep Pastor Jackson’s fire burning bright as he plans to mentor young pastors, speak at conferences, and do fill-in pulpit opportunities. We also bless the 7,000 member Whitesburg Baptist Church as they adjust to his absence and seek for his replacement. May they hear You clearly in making this decision.

And while we are at it, we want to thank You for all the pastors of Huntsville/Madison County. We bless them!

We pray for each one to be equipped and empowered by Your Spirit in their calling and gifting. (Heb. 13:20-21) Give them discernment and sensitivity to what is pleasing to You. (Phil. 1:9-11) May they continue to know and live in Your unconditional love, Father, and the freedom of Jesus. (I John 3:1-2, Gal. 5:1) Pour Your Spirit upon them in power and humility, giving fresh intimacy with Jesus.

Keep them true to their God-given purpose in ministry and help them guard and prioritize their time. (I Cor. 15:58) We bless them with joy, peace, and victory in ministry in spite of difficulties, pressures, circumstances and people. (Phil. 4:6-8, II Cor. 1:9-12) Cause deep friendships with other pastors to grow as they watch together over the spiritual climate of Huntsville/Madison County. Care for our shepherds as they care for us!

“Shepherd the flock of God among you….casting all your care upon
Him for He cares for you.” I Peter 5:2, 7
