Prayers for Our City: March 2, 2020 – Government

“I urge…that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good and pleases God…”  1 Timothy 2:1-3 NIV

Help us, Lord, to pray often for our local, state and national leaders; knowing that routinely praying for them reminds us that we are appealing to the One who is actually in control.

Father, as we pray over the Primary Election this Tuesday, March 3, and the General Election later on this year, we thank You that we have the freedom to vote for our leaders – what a privilege and responsibility.

We ask that Your peace and protection keep our nation through this process. We recognize that we desperately need you to intervene in our nation and send awakening to Your people and transformation to our culture! Our greatest need is spiritual, not political. Guide us as we vote remembering that our true King always sits on the throne!

Amendment 1 – last item on the back of the ballot

Amendment 1 will take away your right to vote for the state school board. It will also require Alabama to match our education standards to a currently unknown national standard instead of letting Alabama choose what is best for our state.

“We know that as ambassadors of our heavenly king and kingdom, we are to be faithful citizens wherever you have placed us on this Earth. In our context, we have the freedom to participate in the political process. Grant us wisdom to do what pleases You; grant us the courage to do what is right. And help us not to put our hope in any candidate now or in the future; help us to put our hope in Christ, our King. In the name of Jesus Christ, we ask: Amen”  (Excerpt from a prayer by Juan R. Sanchez, pastor of High Point Baptist Church, Austin Texas.)

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.”  I Chronicles 29:11 NASB
