Prayers for Our City: May 18, 2020 – Family

“You must pay close attention to what they wrote [words of the prophets], for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place — until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.” II Peter 1:19 NLT

Father God, we have been in a dark season in our city and across this nation and the nations of the world. This week as we are seeing signs of hope and recovery, we want to bless, honor, and cover with Your grace those who are still battling for their health, grieving the loss of a loved one, struggling in financial or family crisis, or stuck in fear or depression.

We pray for family, friends, and all who have yet to reach out for the hope and freedom that come when we receive Your gift of salvation. We ask that the Body of Christ here in Huntsville/Madison County will be alert and not miss any opportunity Holy Spirit gives to share Your love, comfort, good news, and hope.

To those living in the dark place of “hope deferred which makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12a), we speak the Word of the Lord to their situation. “But for you who fear My Name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.” Malachi 4:2 NLT

Lord, we cry out to You to grant us all grace to dream again. Help us move past the pain, despair, trauma, and discouragement. People need strength to rise up and move on again. Give wisdom and mercy gifts to us all, Lord, especially our pastors, counselors, and those to whom people turn for comfort and help. We want to hear the stories of healed heart sickness — that “a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12b)

Whatever prison of pain the enemy wants to hold us in, let that new dawn of hope rise and cause us to say “I’m not going to decorate this cell and live here! This is not my home, not where I have to stay!”

Pour out by Your Spirit the ability to persevere instead of giving up. Lord, You love to do that! So we are asking You to turn these situations around. Restore dreams, Lord! Cause hearts to hope again!

Then we will rejoice as we watch You restore what the “locusts have eaten.” We choose to believe the prophetic voice that boldly prayed and declared before the President and this nation that You are the Lord of the United States and You will enable us, as we believe Your Word, to “recover all.” [Please listen to this 5-minute scriptural prayer given at the Rose Garden event on National Day of Prayer]
