Prayers for Our City: October 22, 2018 – Media

“These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another;
judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates.” Zechariah 8:16 (NASB)

This week, Father, we pray for all those who serve as news reporters and anchors for Huntsville/Madison County presenting news and providing commentary through the Media Mountain. We bless them with the ability to provide stability and confidence in an otherwise uncertain situation. These positions are high profile and powerful as the community looks to them as representatives of truth. May the fear of the Lord be upon them because this is the beginning of wisdom, and all who follow Your precepts have good understanding. (Psalm 111:10) We pray for their safety and guidance as they respond to breaking news rapidly to offer information and interpretation. Comfort and enable them to cast their cares on You as they witness first hand the tragedies and suffering that go on in our community.

Father, we thank You for giving our media reporters/producers wisdom to know when to release a story and when to wait or even refrain. We cover our media teams with Your mercy and compassion so that when they are tempted to present news in a sensational or slanted light, they will be able to see the damage that will bring to the individual(s) involved. Continue to grant our media leaders the ability to design news programs which report news in ways that generate justice and care; and that avoid glorifying violence, lawlessness and hopelessness.

“… A time to be silent and a time to speak.” Ecclesiastes 3:7

“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.”
Psalm 141:3
