Prayers for Our City: September 16, 2019 – Government

Father God, this week we bless the work that is done by our Madison County Public Library system and give our appreciation for the learning opportunities and reading pleasure they provide for our community.

We pray Your blessings of wisdom and guidance over our library management team:  Laurel Best, Cindy Hewitt, and Susan Markham. Enable them and their seven-member Board to uphold wholesome activities (especially for children) without caving to negative political or cultural pressures.

We praise You, Lord, that right now until September 26, our main library is exhibiting the “Darkness to Life” Alabama Holocaust Survivor traveling display. Use these testimonies mightily to prevent “darkness” from threatening the life of any people ever again!

Oh, Father, there’s something coming to more and more libraries in our nation that we cry out to You to put a stop to for the sake of our children. Please wake up Your Church to the dangerous ploy of the “Drag Queen Story Hour”. Please give our library leaders wisdom and the ability to say “NO” if one of the national Drag Queen Chapters wants to perform in our Madison County libraries. [See this New York Times article explaining the origins and read this report about the Christian faith leaders in a California city who are working together to oppose this activity at their library.]

Help, Lord! There’s no inch of territory that the Left will leave untouched until everyone affirms its agenda. As Your “watchmen on the walls”, show us how to stand in Truth and Love to “sound an alarm” to pray and counter this spirit attacking our children, our cities, our national culture. [This week, September 16-22, is the nationally promoted Play With Pride Week when soccer teams across the country can show their support for athletes and coaches in the LGBTQ community by wearing rainbow laces.]
