Prayers for Our City – September 5, 2016

“For the Lord your God will bless you in all the work of your hands,
and your joy will be complete.” Deut. 16:15

Those of us who get a day off to rest and enjoy family say Thank You, Lord. And we pray Your blessings on those who must work in the restaurants and shops and other businesses that do not close on this holiday.

Also Father, we are looking toward Sunday which is Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. It’s so hard to believe that 15 years have passed since September 11, 2001. We pray Your comfort and healing for those still suffering loss or physical/emotional trauma from that horrific event. May our city and nation remember to care, to pray, and to serve causes greater than ourselves to honor those we lost.

We agree with our President’s pledge, “On Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we pledge to carry on their legacy of courage and compassion, and to move forward together as one people.” We humbly acknowledge that that can only happen as we unite in You. We worship You as our God of forgiveness and healing. Jesus, we declare You are the Lord of this nation. We confess the sin of worshiping many idols as a nation. We ask You to forgive Your people for neglecting to pray and for criticizing and judging our government and media instead. Restore us to a “first love” devotion and praise for Your mercy and goodness. We believe Your Word that the plans You have for our city/state/nation are plans for good that give us a hope and a future. May we faithfully pass that baton to our children.

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Cor. 15:58

“That is why we labor and strive, because we have put
our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people” 1 Tim. 4:10
